Have your heart set on an idyllic summer trip in Europe? Mirabó de Valldemossa is a secluded 16th-century finca that offers an air of romance, wilderness, and charm that feels as if it was plucked out of a storybook.
Set amongst the foothills of ancient olive groves and sweet jasmine trees dotting the countryside of Mallorca, you’ll find some of the best views on the island that overlook the milk-and-honey-hued village known as Valldemossa.
An Idyllic Milk-and-Honey Mallorcan Village
Only a half hour's drive from Palma de Mallorca, you’ll find one of my favorite places on the globe — Valldemossa. This quaint Mediterranean village exudes old-world charm and feels suspended in time. It’s the type of place where heaven meets earth, with a delicate, serene energy filling the air.
Visit the actor Michael Douglas’ cultural project called Costa Nord on Avenida Palma. You’ll find a ton of local-life exhibits and a multi-screen film detailing the history of Mallorca’s North coast — his personal love letter to Mallorca. Alternatively, follow in the footsteps of Chopin and his lover George Sand with a visit to the Cartuja de Valldemossa monastery. This 14th-century sanctuary was a temporary home to the musician and writer. Nearby Deià is also well worth a visit, boasting some of the island’s best views and eateries.
A Home Away from Home: Mirabo de Valldemossa
Driving from Palma airport, you’ll trek through steep terrain with jagged cliffs falling and rising around you, with winding, narrow roads carefully carved out from their facades. Just around the last bend, before entering the quiet village center, you’ll find a dirt track that winds up the hillside past silvery olive groves — revealing the beautiful and simple farmhouse nestled in the hillside.
Upon arriving, Antonio will whisk away your bags and welcome you through large oak doors that reveal the understated entrance of this former olive farm. You’ll find a number of inviting spaces where you can co-mingle with other guests, such as a high-ceiling living room that is both grand yet simple, a small kitchenette known as the “honesty bar” where you can find well-stocked delights (wine from the family’s vineyard, for example) to enjoy throughout the property.
RBV Intel: Pour yourself a cocktail and cozy up by the stone fireplace come nighttime — you’ll feel right at home.
The rest of the farmhouse comprises nine spacious rooms and a separate guest suite (perfect for a romantic couple’s getaway — that’s where we stayed!). I remember the sun gently waking us through the large glass windows and the faint chirping of birds just outside our room — it was so peaceful. The property has a beautiful infinity pool and a smaller stone plunge pool for guests staying at the separate guest house.
Food & Drink
Impressively, Mirabó has a rustic-chic restaurant that offers indoor seating in the former olive press that oozes farmhouse simplicity. The menu is simple: starters and mains with local flavors and ingredients — served on fresh table linens with soft candlelight dancing on the honey-hued stone walls. If you prefer to dine alfresco (like us!), head down for breakfast to sip on freshly made coffee, delicate eggs, and tasty European pastries under the shady trees.
Breakfast is served 8:30AM–11:30AM, lunch is from 1PM–3PM and dinner is served from 7PM–9:30PM. Hungry for an after-hours snack? Head over to the honesty bar — you’ll find some of the best goodies there.
