Miami, often known for its bustling nightlife and vibrant beach scene, is also a perfect destination for those who prefer a slower pace. For the ultimate slow travel experience, take the time to savor the city's hidden gems, indulge in its culinary delights, and relax in some of its most serene spots. This guide will take you through a perfect weekend in Miami, highlighting places to stay, eat, and explore, ensuring a memorable and unhurried visit.
Where to Stay
Soho Beach House
Located in the heart of Miami Beach, Soho Beach House is an exclusive members-only club that offers a luxurious and intimate stay. Whether lounging by the pool or enjoying the private beach, you’ll find an atmosphere combining chic design and a relaxed vibe. The food and drinks are top-notch, and the spa services are perfect for unwinding after a day of exploration.
It's important to note that Soho Beach House is a members-only club. However, with a hotel reservation, it gives you access to the full property and private beach access. Should you choose to stay elsewhere during your time in Miami, you can still experience a taste at Soho House at Cecconi's, their Italian restaurant open to the public on the first floor — renowned for one of the best brunches in Miami.
Chances are, you will likely see us at Soho House! I have been a member for years and really enjoy spending time here, whether it's working remotely or enjoying the beach access.
The Standard Hotel and Spa
Another favorite spot to stay is The Standard Hotel and Spa. Known for its holistic approach to relaxation, The Standard offers a unique experience that blends wellness with luxury. The tranquil atmosphere of the spa and the stunning views from the Lido Bayside Grill make it a must-visit. Even if you’re not staying overnight, dropping by for a sunset drink at Lido is highly recommended. You can read more about our stay here.
Day 1: Culinary Delights and Hidden Gems
Day Time: Relaxing at The Standard Pool Beach Side at Soho Beach House
Spend your afternoon lounging by the pool at The Standard Spa or on the private beach at Soho Beach House. It’s the perfect place to unwind and soak up some sun. If you’re feeling adventurous, try either of their spa treatments to fully relax. Spots usually fill up fast, so try to grab chairs before 11 AM for the best spot to soak up some sun.
Dinner: Boia De or Mandolin Aegean Bistro
In the evening, make your way to Boia De for dinner. This unassuming spot in a small shopping plaza serves some of the most inventive Italian-inspired dishes in Miami. The Michelin-rated restaurant offers a cozy yet unpretentious dining experience that’s sure to impress any food lover.
Alternatively, close by, head to Mandolin Aegean Bistro. Located just north of the Miami Design District, this charming restaurant offers a menu full of fresh, flavorful dishes inspired by the Aegean region. The beautiful courtyard seating and warm atmosphere make it a favorite among locals and visitors alike.
I mention both of these great restaurant spots in my interview with Shoutout Miami, linked here.
Late Night: Drinks at Dante’s HiFi
End your day with a visit to Dante’s HiFi. This intimate vinyl bar is a paradise for music lovers. The cozy, dimly-lit atmosphere and expertly curated music selection make it a great place to enjoy a nightcap.
Day 2: Exploring Miami’s Tranquil Spots
Morning: Coconut Grove Farmer’s Market
Start your weekend with a visit to the Coconut Grove Farmer’s Market. This vibrant market is full of fresh produce, artisanal products, and local vendors. It’s a great place to grab a healthy breakfast and enjoy the local atmosphere.
Late Morning: Fairchild Botanical Garden
After the market, head to the Fairchild Botanical Garden. This stunning garden showcases a wide variety of tropical plants and flowers. Spend a leisurely morning strolling through the beautiful landscapes, taking in the serene environment. The garden often hosts events and exhibitions, so check out what’s on during your visit. Check out these photos from our last visit here.
Lunch: Coconut Grove Dining
For lunch, Coconut Grove offers plenty of options that are constantly rotating. The Bayshore Club, Le Bouchon du Grove, Ariete, Jaguar Restaurant, and Koko are some of our favorites.
Afternoon: Vizcaya Museum and Gardens
Spend your afternoon exploring the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. This historic estate offers a glimpse into Miami’s past, with its stunning architecture and beautifully manicured gardens. It’s a peaceful place to wander, with plenty of photo opportunities along the way.
Evening: Sunset at Lido, The Standard Hotel and Spa
Head back to The Standard Hotel and Spa for a relaxing evening. Enjoy a happy hour drink at Lido Bayside Grill as you watch the sunset over Biscayne Bay. The serene ambiance and spectacular views make it the perfect way to end your day.
